I’m trying not to buy an overpriced and over-achieving new laptop, but likewise I want it to produce 3D views and run well for the next 5 years or so. Activity Monitor watches more than just how much RAM is being used it also monitors CPU usage, which apps are using the most energy, how apps are reading or writing from your hard disk or SSD, and what’s going on with your network. Launch it from Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor. I’m finally upgrading my old Macbook Pro (15”, Retina, Mid 2014, 16GB Memory, etc). The easiest way to see what’s going on with your Mac’s memory is to look at Activity Monitor.
